Admissions Information

“Your Child, Our School, Their Legacy.”

 

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for your interest in The Child School/Legacy High School located on beautiful Roosevelt Island.

Founded in 1973, The Child School/Legacy High School is a 12-month non-public school. We educate students from K-12 with varying disabilities. Students are given appropriate accommodations to ensure they receive full access to a general education curriculum, and the school currently boasts a 94 percent graduation rate. The Child School/Legacy High School is a learning community that focuses on the total child. Teachers, administrators, and staff collaborate with parents to accommodate each student's learning style so that all of our students experience success. We embrace each child's unique set of skills in order to enhance his or her self-image, motivation, and social skills - all of which are critical to a child's success.

Our Admissions Process has several steps which are explained in detail on the following page. Once an application is submitted in its entirety, you will be contacted regarding whether or not we believe we can meet the unique needs of your child. Admissions Procedures

The following items must be submitted simultaneously to be considered for admittance to The Child School/Legacy High School:

 

____    Completed Application submitted by January 31st. Click Here for Application

____    Most Current IEP (within 1 year)

____    Most Current Psychoeducational and/or Neuropsychological Evaluation (within 3 years)

____    Current Related Service Provider Reports (if applicable)

____    School Transcript (Grades 9-12) or 2-Years of Reports Cards (Pre-K-8)

____    OPTIONAL: Suggested $50 donation

(Note: Please ensure you keep copies of all documentation as forms will not be returned after their submission).

 

Please use the above link to download an application for your child to The Child School/Legacy High School. We request that you print and fill out the entire application which includes securing copies of current teacher and therapist reports. Complete applications must be submitted by January 31st and will be reviewed by members of our Admissions Committee.

If it is determined that your child may be an appropriate match for The Child School/Legacy High School, your son or daughter will be invited in for an informal interview/assessment and possibly a classroom visit. We regret that we are unable to interview all potential candidates. The Admissions Committee will then meet to discuss whether we believe your child would benefit from our program, and you will be notified of the decision. In the event that you choose to accept a placement offer, please note that you have 10 days to return the contract and that the space can only be held with a signed contract indicating private pay or approval of funding from the Department of Education or the child’s school district.
