Summer Program

Elementary and Middle School Programs
To ensure that advances in students’ academic and social skills are not lost during the summer break, The Child School offers a 12-month curriculum. Students receive a brief “vacation” between the end of the traditional school year and commencement of the Summer Program, and also between the final day of the Summer Program and beginning of the next school year. Students whose IEP does not mandate round the year programming are strongly urged to continue their education as a 12-month course of study.

Our 6-week Summer School:

  • Acts as a continuation of our regular 10-month program, offering an appropriate summer educational setting for children with learning disabilities and/or emotional disturbances.
  • Focuses on academic areas (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Health) geared to the level of each child.
  • Includes related services, i.e., Counseling, Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy as mandated by the student’s current I.E.P.
  • Provides an uninterrupted academic program. Long periods of time without instruction result in memory loss.
  • Accomplishes all of the above in a more relaxed learning environment with a creativity that makes Summer School not only educational but pleasurable as well.

Legacy High School:
a 12-month school year is mandatory

  • Continuation of our regular 10-month program, inclusive of all academic subject areas in addition to an exciting array of electives.
  • In August Regents Prep, students are individually tutored on any Regents they did not pass during the June examination period.
  • Remedial work in any course a student might have failed during the school year so he/she can receive classroom credit in the summer.
  • Related services including Counseling, Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy as mandated by the student’s current I.E.P.
  • Legacy High School’s Summer Program is highly academic. If your child does not attend summer school, we assume no responsibility for the curriculum missed.

Our team of educators and specialists push students to excel in imaginative ways, using innovative techniques and collaborative strategies.
