Physical Education
It is essential that children with special needs have access to physical education to help release energy while learning motor skill development. The physical education program addresses both physical skill development and specific motor disabilities. We have a new 4,840-square-foot Gymnasium with full-sized basketball and volleyball courts, and viewing balcony. Our multi-purpose rooms have rock-climbing walls. Roosevelt Island has 8 parks and playgrounds within easy walking distance of our campus.
Class emphasis varies with age and skill level in grades K-12. The following activities serve as a basis for developing a sense of confidence and a feeling of mastery and control of their physical self in each child:
Developmental motor skills
Age-appropriate games
Team sports (basketball, softball, soccer and track)
After-school participation is encouraged through our Varsity Sports Program, providing extracurricular team sports in basketball, softball, soccer and track. Our Varsity teams travel and compete interscholastically throughout the Greater New York Metropolitan area.
