Academics

  • We see disabilities not as a limitation but as a challenge capable of being overcome.
  • The teacher's focus is to discover the way each child learns and to accommodate that child's learning style.
  • The development of appropriate learning behaviors, critical thinking skills, improved comprehension and socialization is a goal in every lesson grades K-12.
  • Class ratio is 8:1:1 in Elementary and 12:1:1 in Middle and High Schools.
  • Our graduation rate is exemplary. Eighty two percent (82%) of our students receive Regents and RCT diplomas, a notable sign of success given the climate of special education in New York City's public school system where only 12% of special needs students are leaving school with Regents/RCT diplomas, according to a recent report by Advocates for Children.
  • Educators work cohesively to assess each youngster's situation and collaborate on strategies in order to provide youngsters with an optimal learning and emotional environment.
  • We offer a unique related services program for Psychology, Speech & Language, and Occupational Therapy.
  • Our aim is to further develop critical thinking skills, allowing students to navigate obstacles and feel secure in the understanding that help is available.
  • The ultimate educational goal for every student is to become an independent, active, contributing member of society, to a level commensurate with their potential.
  • Youngsters arrive full of hope and anticipation, and it is our desire to help them meet challenges every school year.
  • We are proud to be filling the city's dire need for schools that provide a diploma-bound curriculum and more demanding academic program, when few schools in the New York Public Education System can accommodate these special students' requirements and even fewer openings are available.
