Make your own Radio Show
In January 2008, two Upper Elementary classes (Forms 8 and 9) started participating in the “Make Your Own Radio Show” program through Young Audiences New York with WQXR (93.3 FM) and the Paley Center for Media (formerly the Museum of Television and Radio). Students will produce their own radio show based on the From the Top format featuring musical guests from the school community. Students usually separate into two groups: performers and technicians. The student performers write a script and decide what they will perform on the radio show and the student technicians study the nuts and bolts of radio broadcasting. At the end of 10 weeks the students perform live in front of an audience. The interdisciplinary program includes residency activities, guest speakers and field trips.

In February 2008, Upper Elementary and Middle School will be participating in architectural classes offered through the
Salvadori Center . Students learn about the engineering behind the construction of bridges, skyscrapers and buildings native to New York through interactive lessons. One such lesson requires that students test paper columns and homemade concrete beams in order to better understand the forces that hold up bridges. Guest lecturers from the
Salvadori Center will visit with students throughout the semester.
