Parents
Our parents are the key to fully understanding and working effectively with our children. The Child School prides itself in holding to the following principles:
- Educate parents about the methods and materials utilized in academic remediation, providing guidelines for support at home.
- Provide parents with alternative ways of observing, interpreting and responding to their children’s performance and behavior.
- Increase the family-school bond by inviting parental involvement in school activities.
- Decrease isolation and frustration by providing opportunities for parents to share and solve problems together.
- Increase communication between parents and faculty.
Parent Association (PA)
The foundation of the Parent Association is you, the parents. The PA keeps in touch with parents/guardians about all things related to the school. They sponsor 4 to 6 meetings for each division (Elementary, Middle and High Schools have different meeting dates). The PA meeting is your place to talk about your needs and concerns and school issues. The PA wants to hear your ideas and needs your input. Share your thoughts at PA meetings or call the PA Liaison(s) for your division to suggest topics of interest for the PA meeting agendas. The PA is growing and needs everyone’s active involvement.

A Holiday Appeal to Parents
TCS Holiday Appeal
Bi-Monthly Memos
The parent memo, "What Parents Need to Know" is sent home regularly to notify parents about activities and events within the School, and provide information that might generally be of interest. If you do not receive your Memo every two weeks, please call 212-223-5055 right away. "What Parents Need to Know" is very important for you to read every two weeks so that you can feel up-to-date.
Parent Conferences
Please call the office to set up an appointment if you have a problem, or feel concerned about the content or rate of your child’s learning, or are just uneasy and need to talk to School staff. Don’t hesitate, whatever the reason. Our only request is that you keep in mind the importance of working together in a caring, family-like milieu. If you remember that we are on the same side with the same goal in mind, you will find your School contacts satisfying and productive.
Report Card Conferences
Each child receives three report cards during the year. Parents are invited to a Parent Teacher Conference to receive the card and review its contents.
Specialists Conferences
We have a very unique, innovative program where psychology, occupational therapy and speech and language are integrated into the classroom to create the most appropriate climate for learning. Our specialists work closely with teachers by consulting, collaborating, planning and being in the classroom with them. By educating teachers, we ensure that techniques are implemented successfully to help students grow. Conferences regarding all Related Services are scheduled during the year for parents to come in and speak with their child’s specialists and review how the child is progressing.
Time with Principal
Parents are always welcome to make an appointment with our Principal to ensure their child is receiving the best education. In addition, our principal offers open hours called “Teach Maari Time” where parents are welcome to drop by without an appointment during the evening. A schedule of times is available by contacting the school.
Class Parents
Every grade has a Class Parent who we ask to take an active, constructive role in the Parent Association. Class Parents encourage other parents to be enthusiastic, attend Parent Meetings and communicate regularly to strengthen our school community.
