Directions
DIRECTIONS to The Child School
Address: 587 Main Street, Roosevelt Island, NY 10044
LOCATION:The Child School and Legacy High school is spread across four different buildings on Roosevelt Island.
DIRECTIONS and TRANSPORTATION: Roosevelt Island is part of Manhattan, although it's positioned closer to Queens. The island will be the home of Cornell University's new technology campus, something we're all excited about. You have many travel options.
SUBWAY: Take the "F" train to the Roosevelt Island station, just one stop from the Upper East Side. When above ground, walk north to 587 Main Street or take the little red local bus, which is free. (Yes, some things in NYC are actually free.) The walk is about 10 minutes.
TRAM: The Roosevelt Island Tram, a cable car that runs over the East River, is a fun and scenic way to get to our school. The tram leaves from 59th Street and Second Ave. in Manhattan. Once on land, walk north to 587 Main Street or take the little red local bus, which is free. (Yes, some things in NYC are actually free.) The walk is about 15 minutes.
FERRY: Take the NYC Ferry service from 90th Street, Astoria, Long Island City, 34th Street, or Pier 11/Wall Street. The ferry stop is located on the east side of the island, near Tram Plaza. Once on land, you will make your way to Main Street, and have the option of walking north to 587 Main Street, or take the little red local bus, which is free. The walk is about 15 minutes.
DRIVING AND PARKING: Please use Google Maps because getting to Roosevelt Island via car can be tricky. You'll need to go through Queens to get to Roosevelt Island and you'll cross two bridges. Once on the island, there are two options for parking. There is a large parking garage you will see as soon as you come across the second bridge, which is the Roosevelt Island Bridge. You can also park on Main Street near the Food Town grocery store, if you can find a spot. Street parking is far less expensive than the parking garage. Our school is just two blocks south of Food Town.
