Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

Farewells

Rehana, our technology teacher, Camille, our art teacher, and Idali our Administrative Assistant retired after more than ten years of service. We wish them well for their future!

Building fun

Our Middle School students had Building Fun with Friends of the Upper East Side, a program run by Heidi Carey. Introduction to the project was followed by a walking tour of neighborhood and designing buildings with paper cutouts.

Our kindergartners have been working hard in the garden and have found their first cucumber of the season!

Look out for pictures on the Flea Market every Friday in the summer run by our Elementary students.

Camille returned to help our students create their Annual Peace Day mural.

An admissions representative from St. John's University spoke with our 11th and 12th graders.

As part of Bullying Awareness Month, our students attended assemblies presented by JLINE Dance Crew. As a strong supporter of anti-bullying and tolerance, JLINE has performed for over 1 million students nationwide. His music and message have reached audiences of all ages, letting them know they are not alone and inspiring them to reach for their goals.

Remy's 4th grade class was inspired by JLINE's anti-bullying assemblies so they created anti-bullying t-shirts to wear throughout the day!

Jennifer's 4th grade class reinvented the wheel (and axle) by creating a simple machine: the toilet paper roll race car!

Our 5th graders celebrated Thanksgiving with a potluck.

On Thursday, December 14th, 2017, we celebrated our students hard work and inducted this year's new members into the National Honor Society. The students' dedication to their academics and community were demonstrated through all of their wonderful accomplishments. This year, we welcome the following students: Veronica Leyzerzon, Jonah Shainberg, Matthew Fong, Kevin Wu, Ryan Ng, Joshua Aguirre-Leon, Annie Barrett-Smith, Adwowa Fredricks, and Matthew Eizak. Congratulations and keep up the great work! Enjoy some pictures here. The backdrop was created by Emily, a senior that interns with the art teacher.

On Tuesday, January 16th and Wednesday, January 17th, students in the after school Broadway Bound Kids program presented a sharing to their parents of what they had been working on. The first semester of Broadway Bound was enjoyed by all, especially by our students!

Students in the after-school chess program competed in the Greater NY Chess Championships and received a trophy for their efforts. 8th grader Eddy Aldas won a cash prize for winning all three of his matches. We are very proud of our chess players!

Wonderful participation from our Elementary students in Crazy Hair Friday!

Eileen’s class enjoyed working with the robots donated by Cornell Tech as part of the “Teacher in Residence” program.

Our school celebrated National School Choice Week by having Eileen’s 6th grade class perform the official NSCW dance. A group of parents touring our school enjoyed the performance. Lots of fun was had by all! See pictures here.

Last week, Legacy High School students participated in a community service activity with the non-profit organization, Met Council. The students had the opportunity to create Valentine's Day decorations for Met Council's annual Valentine's Day senior citizen dinner. The students had a wonderful time participating. Here are what some students had to say:

"I think helping others is so important. It is inspiring how some organizations can provide for people in unfortunate positions the help that they need. I appreciate the opportunity I had to provide designs and decorations for the senior citizen dinner." - High School Student

"It's always good to help those in need. I am grateful for letting Met Council give me that opportunity." - High School Student
