Summer Program
The Child School/Legacy High School’s summer session is an academic program; however, we make every effort to incorporate fun activities in the program as well. Continuation of the education process over six weeks of summer ensures a seamless transition into fall session so we feel fortunate to be enrolled as a 12 month program. Summer provides opportunities for students to remediate academics without homework or tests, and provides time to develop social skills, student interests and talents.
Throughout the summer, the academics are interspersed with fun events. Each Friday, the elementary students host a flea market. Each class is learning “money skills” as they organize their booth, and sell used books, toys, cupcakes, or a chance at games such as a bean bag toss or throwing water balloons at the gym teacher. The flea market also provides the middle school and Legacy High School students a short break as they become the elementary school’s best customers. The physical education staff organizes a half day outdoor special for students full of exciting games and fun! Summer is also time for a talent show to showcase the talents of our students. Legacy students compete for a pizza party through participation in “theme “Fridays, fairy tale writing contests, and “teacher of the day”. Visit Middle School one day in the summer and you may feel like you have traveled to the future with Halloween in the summer.
Summer session is also used to introduce additional programs to enhance student education that are hard to do during a regular school year. We may provide swimming instruction, or have students work with professionals to develop a movie, or to learn about local architecture. Each week Legacy students take field trips to learn about area post-secondary schools.
Our summer program is educational and fun!
