Speech Therapy
At The Child School, speech language therapy is provided by highly trained Speech Language Pathologists that hold a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology, New York State licensure, certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disorders, and certification from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Many students at this school experience difficulties with receptive and expressive language skills or the understanding and production of language. These problems are often compounded by difficulties in abstract thought and conceptualization.
Our Speech Language Pathologists provide high quality treatment in the following areas:
- Articulation Disorders
- Phonological Impairments
- Oral-Motor Therapy
- Voice Disorders
- Disfluency
- Expressive and Receptive Language Delays/Disorders
- Auditory Processing Disorders
- Pragmatics (social language) Our therapists believe in a multi-disciplinary approach which links therapy directly to our students’ academic efforts through both pull out and push in sessions. Our speech and language therapy program extends into the classroom and every aspect of your child’s life at school improving generalization and carry over of skills. Our therapists work closely with occupational therapists, school psychologists, teachers, administration, staff, and parents by consulting, collaborating, planning, and being in the classroom. An emphasis is placed on educating teachers in speech and language strategies that will provide the most appropriate climate for learning in the classroom. This practice helps to ensure that techniques are implemented successfully to help students develop the speech and language skills they need to be successful both in and out of the classroom.
